Selected by breeder Intrinsic Perennial Gardens for the bold, glossy foliage which emerges with deep burgundy tones in spring. This early blooming species is easy to have in bloom for early season sales, producing light lavender pink, burgundy-spotted flowers on dark stems. More robust and resistant to powdery mildew than the species; similarly adaptable to drier soils.

Grower Information

Monarda can be started from 72Deep plugs planted in the late summer/early fall and overwintered easily in cold frames or pot-to-pot outdoors. If planting in spring for late spring/early summer sales, start with our larger 32ct vernalized plugs. Monarda should be pinched back early to promote branching or delay flowering. Pinching or PGRs can be used to control height, though PGRs are not recommended for dwarf varieties.
