Acanthus spinosus

Bear's Breeches

Grown for its bold foliage and impressive flowers, this striking perennial forms a sizeable clump of dark green, thistle-like foliage topped with huge spikes of large, mauve and white flowers. It is a bit hardier than A. mollis and thus produces a showier floral display in cold climates. Non-aggressive spreader.
