Eye-catching in bloom, this native species produces cardinal red, two-lipped flowers which are strongly attractive to hummingbirds. It thrives in rich, moist to wet soil and is useful for rain gardens, watersides and naturalizing. Though somewhat short-lived, this vigorous species persists by reseeding.

Thriving in similar conditions as L. cardinalis, this native species produces dense terminal racemes of light to dark blue, two-lipped flowers which attract pollinators. Stiffly upright stalks rise above the finely toothed, light green leaves. Though somewhat short-lived, it persists by reseeding.
